  • Ofcom - Office of Communications 
    • Regulate broadcasting products 
  • IPSO - Independent press standards organisation 
    • Print - posters, leaflets
  • PEGI - Pan European Game Information

Self-regulation is when you personally think about the content you are posting. 

Livingstone and Lund Theory:

  • The needs of the citizen are in conflict with the needs of the consumer. 
  • Protection can limit the freedom of expression 
Keyword definitions:
  • Citizen - Subject of a democratic society that has the responsibility to uphold social norms. They also have the right to be protected from harm. 
  • Consumer - A person that interacts with products and purchases the product. In our case being media products. 
  • Command and control - the idea that those in power (e.g government or watchdog organisations) dictating what users can do or see
  • Globalisation - the way in which industry has expanded on a global scale 
  • Public sphere - the public can have a space for debate and conversation, freedom of expression 
  • Technical convergence - coming together of digital technology to provide services for audiences
